    Shakir has extensive contacts throughout the Middle East and has helped clients identify new business opportunities, select potential partners, and negotiate transactions with governments, as well as the private sector.

    Shakir was born into a merchant family in Baghdad, Iraq, and attended schools with many of the governmental leaders in the Middle East. He moved to the United States in 1976 to attend college.

    Shakir has been engaged in an extensive number of business activities, including the development of commercial properties, ownership of retail enterprises and commercial trade with Iraq and the Middle East. As a result of his unique position, he has been able to play a role in the development and implementation of U.S. policy with respect to Iraq for over twenty years.

    Shakir served as Chairman of the Iraqi Expatriate Conference from 1992 to 2002. He continues to maintain close relationships with business and political leaders in the Middle East.

    Shakir received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in 1980, and a Masters degree in Urban Planning from Wayne State University in 1982.
